TYPES OF ABUSE
12. SPIRITUAL ABUSE
Deprivation of matters
that pertain to a person's spiritual welfare and
belief. This can be at a personal level (where a person refuses to
allow another to attend church - this is often a partner refusing to
allow the other partner or their children to attend church) or it can
be at a cultural or political level where local authorities refuse to
allow a person the right to practice, openly and freely, their
spiritual beliefs. Spiritual abuse is also found in many cults and
organisation where a dictatorial person or group, lays down the rules
about what members can believe or do or what they must do - for example
there are cults that insist that the leaders of the cult must have
sexual relations with every woman or man within the cult before they
are allowed to mix with others (this is just one example).
