17. BUREAUCRATIC ABUSE
Primarily this applies
in the area of enforcing the law. Whilst most
bureaucrats are responsible people, too often there are those who
become obsessed with the power that their position gives them and they
enforce law without thought to the suffering and pain (and sometimes
death) that their action can lead to. It is believed that as much as
25% of suicide in western countries can be attributed directly back to
the actions of government departments or staff in one way or another.
Like politicians, because they are generally not answerable for their
actions, they can do as they like.
