TYPES OF ABUSE
21. PARENT ABUSE
This is a very sensitive
area of abuse as it is one that most parents
experience but very few will actually talk about. Primarily, this is
the area where teenagers are constantly abusing their parents because
they want to do their thing in their time. Whilst for many, the level
of abuse here is generally mild, it sadly breaks out into other types
of abuse, including severe physical abuse. It is certainly not gender
specific as it is probably about equal between male and female.
An aside to this is where elderly parents are concerned and their
children (and possibly even grandchildren) are just "too busy" to be
interested in looking after their needs. This is not saying they should
remove the independence of the elderly, but sometimes they need family
support for something and the family could not be bothered with them.
Children who ignore the needs of their elderly parents are, in fact
committing a type of abuse.
