TYPES OF ABUSE

22. SIBLING ABUSE

While some would argue that this is just a type of bullying (and, in part, they are correct) it is family specific. The perpetrator in this case would never dream of doing what they do to any outside person but it is a different story within the family. While generally it is the older sibling (not necessarily oldest) that will be the perpetrator in this situation, it is not exclusively this way as sometimes it can be a younger one (especially where there are a number of children) who is trying to make their presence felt. It is usually physical abuse but it can be other types as well. This type of abuse is not specific to childhood as it can carry on right through life.
