22. SIBLING ABUSE
While some would argue
that this is just a type of bullying (and, in
part, they are correct) it is family specific. The perpetrator in this
case would never dream of doing what they do to any outside person but
it is a different story within the family. While generally it is the
older sibling (not necessarily oldest) that will be the perpetrator in
this situation, it is not exclusively this way as sometimes it can be a
younger one (especially where there are a number of children) who is
trying to make their presence felt. It is usually physical abuse but it
can be other types as well. This type of abuse is not specific to
childhood as it can carry on right through life.
